Premier Broiler Breeder operation in Central Alberta
Located just minutes southeast of Barrhead on a full quarter section of excellent hay-producing land, this turn-key breeder hen operation offers a rare combination of modern infrastructure, strong quota, and an ideal biosecurity location well away from neighbouring poultry operations with convenient access close to pavement.
The operation carries 30,848 quota units of breeding hen quota across three well-equipped barns, each built and maintained to a high standard. (current quota is at 110% placements)
The pullet barn, a 2022 prefab concrete build measuring 70x300 feet, represents the newest addition to the operation. Fully automated with modern control systems and high-end cameras, it features full floor heat, four forced air furnaces, Roxel feeders, Lubing waterers, a separate spiker room, a dedicated male room, and its own natural gas backup generator. Feed bins accommodate three flocks totaling approximately 28 tonnes of storage.
The two layer barns, each 44x500 feet and built in 2014, are connected at the front by a heated workspace housing the picker conveyor belts, packer, and extensive work area, and connected at the rear by a shared manure collection system and equipment shed. Each barn features a two-foot deep pit with twice-daily automatic manure scrapers, floor heat under the scratch area, four forced air heaters, Cumberland nest boxes, Lubing waterers, and Cumberland feeders supplied from 30-tonne feed storage bins. A Solegra solar wall panel system on each layer of the barn contributes meaningfully to heating efficiency and utility cost reduction. Each barn is also equipped with a well-appointed mechanical room featuring multiple boilers, a cooled egg room, a washroom, office space, and a four-year-old Prinzen egg picker, grader, and packer. Modern control systems and cameras are in place throughout.
Water is supplied from two on-site wells. Hay production on the quarter is managed on a one-third crop share arrangement with a neighbouring operator, providing passive income from the land itself.
Additional infrastructure includes a fully heated 40x50-foot shop, two open-faced pole sheds for equipment and hay storage, and a well-maintained 900-square-foot home that has been thoughtfully renovated over the years.
